My Experiences Being Self-employed
This is on being self-employed.
How is it like being self employed? Are there more advantages to being self-employed? I was self-employed for several years and I think that it was one of the best things I’ve had for myself. It was much better than a normal job and I earn much more being self-employed. I have to work more hours and do more thinking but it was worth it. I made more revenue then when I was an employee. I had more fun. I had more freedom and flexibility. I can go on vacation whenever I wanted too. I can show up late to work. I can design my work place anyway that I wanted to. No one was there to tell me what to do and I think I really enjoy that freedom too. I made all the decisions regarding my work. This was when I get to see if my decisions were good any all. I made a good income so I assume that I made really good decisions. I never fell short. I was always profiting and never fell short. What I enjoyed the most about my business was that people love to buy my merchandise and they come every week to see me. I show up to work in my casual clothing and I didn’t have to dress up all the time. I sleep sometimes too which was helpful. I was able to study at the same time too.
I couldn’t continue my business because I had to move but it was a great business. I made good revenues and I was happy most of the time. Even though I had a good time, there were some down side to owing a business too. You have many liabilities and risks. You have to have to response to theft, harassment, tax, auditing, returns, fraud, and financing. It’s difficult and it’s not just dressing up and get to your work and then go home. You have to finance your business. If you run out of money, you can’t go on. If you have no help, then you can’t go on. If you’re lucky, you have some additional savings go help finance your business if you do run out of money. However, if you don’t have any back up financing, you will be caught with financial problems. Financial problem is the number one reason why business owners suffered and even close down their business.
It’s much simpler working for someone else. You don’t have to worry about financing problems or not making your sales goals. You don’t have to work 20 hours a day. You don’t have to worry about theft or customers harassment. There are many things that you don’t have to worry about. You have less headaches then a business owner. However, you don’t make as much revenue as a business owner. There are more positive things about being a business owner than negative ones. If you’re thinking about running a business then you should do it.
