Each and every year, countless businesses are started up. Very few of those small businesses last past their first year. The reasons for the small business failures are rather many, mistakes are made, and everything goes wrong.

Many people start up a business at home over the years. Very few of those businesses are going to last past the first year or so, never mind a few months. There are many reasons for failure for small business owners around the world, some of them very much their fault and others through circumstances beyond their control. Let’s take a look at the reasons why many small businesses them to fail rather quickly.

Lack of Direction

Obviously you can start up a business, but what are your goals? What is the audience that you are trying to reach? Do you know if you have to deal with a lot of competition? Sadly while those are good questions, many people will stammer. As it turns out, they have only thought about the fact that they want to start up a certain business but beyond that, not that much.

Lack of Funds

Money does make the world go around. If you aren’t willing to lose big time or if you aren’t able to, then it is a secure assumption that you will not be doing all that well in creating a small business. Small businesses can be money sinks, even the best put together, with the best economic plans. Of course, if you have no sense of how to manage your money, then that is a hurdle that you cannot overcome.

Inability to Learn from Past Failures

Likely you have made or seen more than your fair share of mistakes in your time. And if you think that you won’t make any yourself or the same bad thing will not happen to you, then you better think twice about that fact. Many businesses fail from the same mismanagement and some of them fail when it’s the same person going back to the well again, making the same exact mistakes with their small business.

Lack of Patience

As the clichéd saying goes, Rome did not build itself in a day and most certainly businesses do not. You’re going to fall many times before you learn how to walk. Sometimes those falls hurt and can be a bitter pill to swallow. Yet to press on and to accept that this is going to take time, sometimes years and years, is a battle that will put you ahead of many people.

Some people do need direction

Many people want to be their own boss but the matter of handling being your own boss is something entirely different. When put out there with the freedom, they are often at a loss what to do next. It is true that there are more followers out there than leaders. That’s not to say that followers cannot grow into good leaders into the future. However, the freedom is something that many people know what to do with. They do not have the drive or the ambition to properly get a small business off of the ground.

If you start up a small business, there is a chance that you will flop rather badly but there is also a chance that you’ll succeed. One never does know until they try.
