Are you wanting to take your small business to the next level? New and old small business opportunities arise in the midst of a global recession.

The challenges faced by business owners operating small or medium sized enterprises in any economy are many and varied to say the least.  Coupled with a global recession, the same is even truer for businesses operating in developing economies where resources and opportunities are even more limited.  There are organisations however, that are aiming to make a difference in stemming this tide with innovative new products to help small business owners to face such challenges and rise above them in tough economic times.

Electronic Newsletters/Magazines

Many of the challenges faced by small businesses and their owners is due in large part to a lack of access to information and affordable resources.  A growing trend to aid in this regard is that of electronic magazines and newsletters being offered to small business owners that aim to equip and provide them with practical information regarding how to grow their businesses and where to find relevant and easily accessible resources.   These electronic publications come out periodically - daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly or bi-annually – and provide an accessible and cost effective means of providing critical information to specialized services.  These are either produces and geared toward small businesses or are often produced by them to provide information about products or services offered.  Electronic newsletter and magazines are constantly being improved upon and are published either through websites or mailing lists sending publications directly to subscribed email addresses.

Incubators

Although magazines and newsletters may be useful to the small business owner, it is often times not enough to help these businesses stay afloat.  As such measures to aid in this regard are constantly being revised.  One of the most innovative of the same that I have seen so far is the concept of an incubator.  Incubators in the medical field are often thought of as being used to nurse premature babies to health.  In a similar manner, incubators in the business world are used to nurse start ups and small businesses to a state where they can depend on its own resources.

Incubators often provide office space at very low rent, machinery and other resources that may be needed depending on the nature of the business.  These are usually provided at a rate that can be afforded by these startups and are usually way below market value.  Incubator services are often provided for the first few years of the life of a small business, when it is hardest for these businesses to keep from going under.

Internet

One of the most powerful tools for small businesses today is that of the internet.  The internet provides an interconnectivity of worlds, cultures and peoples and opens up to the small business owner a market that prior to this technology being made available, would not have been reached.  In many respects however, the possibilities therein are left largely untapped.  Nevertheless, there has been remarkable growth in internet based businesses and online ventures within the small business economy.

Social networking sites and paid advertisements are fast becoming a mainstay in small business marketing without the big budget used to sustain more traditional marketing options.  Internet resources are often affordable, quick and convenient and so many clients prefer to do business with companies that have a strong and viable internet presence.

Resources provided by internet technologies (such as virtual assistants and off shore call centres) help to give small business owners an opportunity to provide satisfactory customer service at a minimal cost, allowing them to communicate effectively with current and potential clientel.

Small businesses will often use a combination of resources depending on their needs to keep their businesses going and now more than ever, more innovative and accessible resources are at their disposal to aid in ensuring future successes.
