Flint, Michigan is the birthplace of General Motors Corporation but you wouldn’t know if you happened to drive around this city, which is 60 miles west and north of Detroit. The city began as a carriage maker, and due to a conglomeration of efforts morphed into a place where, in 1978, over 78,000 people were working in one of the many plants in the Greater Flint area. Now only one plant remains clearly within the city’s boundaries.
